David Victorson is a licensed health psychologist and Associate Professor of Medical Social Sciences in Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He is also Interim Program Leader of Cancer Control and Survivorship at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. At MSS, David leads the Consciousness in Health Research Lab (www.consciousnessinhealth.org) where he and his team investigate ways to improve health, quality of life (QOL), and well-being in medical patient populations, caregivers, and health care professionals. One of David's primary research interests is in mindfulness meditation as it relates to indicators of QOL and wellbeing, emotion regulation, and bio-behavioral outcomes. David received his first mindfulness-focused pilot grant in 2009, and he is currently Principal Investigator on two NIH-funded R01 grants focusing on mindfulness. David is also founder and director of a nonprofit organization called True North Treks (www.truenorthtreks.org), which supports young adults and their caregivers affected by cancer through immersive experiences in nature involving peer connection and support and training in mindful awareness practices.
